Case Study - Appleyards
Appleyards
Data Consolidation & Business Continuity

Business Background

Appleyards, a nationwide consultancy in the public and private sector, required consolidation of data through the installation of SANs into two offices.

Business Objective

Requirement for increased data capacity to meet the rise in users and expected data growth
With the increase in the quantity of data and its strategic importance to the company,  continuous data availability became increasingly critical
Implementation of a business continuity strategy

Solution

The client’s data requirements were increasing rapidly. Added to this was the increasing risk that loss of the data would damage the business. The data was shared across the two main office sites connected together, stored on a mixture of different servers. The main objective was to copy the data from the current servers to the SANs and then to get the SANs to replicate their data between the two office locations.

Implementation

The SANs were fitted into the two offices and installed onto the domain. The data from the local live data servers was then copied to the local SANs. A copy of the local data was then taken and put onto the remote office SAN.

The HP Storage Works Mirroring software was then configured in the first instance for integrity checking and then for data replication. Once the data was replicating successfully, the replicated data on each site was backed up so as to keep a historical copy.

With the data replication and the back up process in place, the switch from the old data servers to the new SAN storage systems was successfully implemented.

Client Outcome

The client now has vastly improved data protection, associated business security and sufficient data storage capacity to match future growth.
